Francisco de Gouveia Martins Sarmento is without doubt one of the most famous archaeologists of Portugal, and in his time end of the 19th Century, he was probably the most famous in his field. Born

Martins Sarmento has never participated in an archaeological excavation in Egypt, although he would certainly have liked it.

1871, he ordered, therefore, an English dealer in Porto, the mummy of an Egyptian princess, which should, as a kind of attraction to his new home when he should visit his friends at home.

is "the" cultural institution of Guimarães.
